A Call for Umbrella Events for Canterbury Festival 2008
As well as bringing a variety of national and international artists to the city and surrounding area, the Festival also strives to provide a platform for the wealth of local talent in East Kent each year by inviting local performers and companies to promote their event as part of the Festival Umbrella.
The Umbrella events are performances or workshops organised and run by local groups or societies, which are listed in the main Festival Brochure. Each year an average of over 30 local groups participate in a wide range of performances or workshops – including all genres of music, theatre, dance and the visual arts.
In 2007, the Festival Umbrella was once again a vibrant mix of local arts events – including a stomping night at The Old Neptune in Whitstable with harmonica maestro Brendan Power, messy fun at an Aboriginal Painting Workshop for children, a classical view of Canterbury in A Musical Portrait from the Canterbury Orchestra and a riot of colour at Canterbury in Bloom at the Westgate Hall.
If there are any societies, groups or individuals who are thinking of putting on an event in East Kent in the dates between the 11-25 October and would like to have that event listed as an Umbrella event as part of the Canterbury Festival 2008, they can request more information and an application form by calling 01227 452853 or by emailing John Prebble on johnp@canterburyfestival.co.uk.
